The Lions Club of Kandy Rajans, under the leadership of Club President Tissa Warakagoda (Jul 1, 2023 - Jun 30, 2024), continues its legacy of impactful service. This year has been marked by significant achievements, including a generous donation of 2.7 million LKR to support the development of a child cancer hostel, reinforcing the club's commitment to healthcare and community welfare. The club also contributed to the educational sector by donating books to Indrajothi Daham Pasala and actively participated in the global fight against diabetes through the World Diabetic Program. Environmental sustainability was promoted through a tree plantation project and joint environmental initiatives.

Additionally, the club made meaningful contributions to various community needs, including the donation of sports items and gifts, first aid supplies to Weerodara Vidyalaya, and athletic equipment. The club also supported the District Governor's tree plantation project and provided donations for self-employed individuals as well as kidney and cancer patients. Books were donated to the child ward in Mawanella Hospital, further emphasizing the club's dedication to healthcare and education.

The club's commitment to international service was highlighted by its representation at the International Lions Convention in Melbourne by members Sanka Gunawardhana and Ranjith Dissanayake. With strong leadership from dedicated members, including First Vice President D. M. Asanga Dissanayake and Club Secretary K Chamath Silva, the club continues to make a lasting difference locally and globally.

The Lions Club of Kandy Rajans experienced a remarkable year under the leadership of Club President Shiral Dissanayake (Jul 1, 2022 - Jun 30, 2023). The year was marked by significant accomplishments, with dedicated efforts from the entire club team. The installation ceremony, held at Hotel Suisse Kandy, set the tone for a year filled with impactful projects and service initiatives. The club excelled in various areas, including membership development, project reporting, and contributions to international service themes. With strong leadership from officers such as Club Secretary D. M. Asanga Dissanayake, First Vice President Tissa Warakagoda, and Club Treasurer UG Dissanayake, among others, the club upheld its mission to serve the community with excellence.

A Legacy of Service: Celebrating Rajans in Action (2021)

The Lions Club of Kandy Rajans was founded in 2021 with a clear vision to establish a dedicated Lions Club for a Buddhist College, inspired by Governor Lion Chethiya Paranathanthri MJF, PMJF, JP. This vision was shared with his cabinet officers, leading to the initiative by Lion Deputy Cabinet Secretary Priyantha Abeykoon, an esteemed old Rajan and past president, to form the Kandy Rajans. The club's formation was further supported by senior Rajans, including Lion Vijitha Abeykoon, Lion Ajith Hewawasam, and Lion Harsha Gardihewa.

The mission of the Lions Club of Kandy Rajans is to serve the community with compassion and dedication, reflecting the values and traditions of Dharmaraja College. As a Specialty Club within the Lions Club International community, it focuses on uniting old Rajans to give back to their alma mater and the broader community, striving to make a meaningful impact through various charitable initiatives and service projects.

Since its charter on June 14, 2021, the Lions Club of Kandy Rajans has been led by prominent members of the Dharmaraja College Old Boys’ Union. Lion K M R Kulatunga, a past president and respected old Rajan, was the club’s Charter President. The charter president played an instrumental role in establishing the club, laying down the core values and vision that continue to guide its members. The club gained a clear identity, and their tireless efforts secured its place as a respected organization, providing a platform where members could collaborate, serve, and grow together. Lion Asanga Dissanayake, the Assistant Secretary of the Dharmaraja College Old Boys’ Union, served as the Charter Secretary. The charter secretary worked tirelessly, pouring countless hours into reforming the club and breathing new life into its operations. His dedication went beyond routine tasks, as they meticulously reviewed and reorganized records, streamlined communication processes, and implemented a more efficient system for tracking member involvement and service hours. Their passion for improvement was evident in their attention to detail and proactive approach, ensuring that every document, from meeting notes to project plans, was meticulously recorded and accessible. This unwavering commitment set a strong foundation for the club's future, inspiring others with a renewed sense of purpose and a higher standard for club management and accountability. While Lion Dananjaya Panangala, one of the vice presidents of the union, was appointed as the Charter Treasurer. Together, they have worked tirelessly to fulfill the club’s mission and uphold its founding vision.
